My brahma cockerel's foot problems

Postby cassieputtock » 08 Jun 2016, 12:08

Hello everyone,
My brahma cockerel has a problem that I assumed was scaly leg mite. I tried to treat it with an anti-parasite powder that I bought from my local animal food shop, to no avail. I then tried giving him injections of ivomectin, I gave him the injections twice (with a space of 2 weeks between each injection) but the problem hasn't improved at all. I have attached photos, what could the problem be? They look terribly swollen, I know that brahmas are supposed to have feathers on their legs and feet but he has none at all. I keep him with 15 hens and I have noticed that they peck at his feet a lot, is there anything I could put on to stop the pecking as they often draw blood? I have the possibility to keep him in an isolation pen.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer.

Sorry they are not the best quality but they are all I have at the moment.

Looks like a bacterial infection to me. It's not classic bumble foot though. I would take him to the vet for broad spectrum antibiotics. To stop him pecking there is a product to stop feather pecking which might do it. We used to use stockholm tar... don't know if that's still available.
