What would you get...

Postby Dionne » 24 Aug 2011, 20:33

...if you crossed a Lemon Cuckoo Orpington cockerel with a Cuckoo Orpington hen? I think I have the female result of this cross, I was thinking it would just be a Cuckoo Orpington but I can't see any barring on it yet. It's a sort of dark grey/black with gold tips on its' breast and neck so far.

Any colour of cuckoo or barred male can have either one copy of the barring gene or two copies. If he has two copies then all his daughters will be barred. However if he only has one copy then half his daughters will be barred and the other half will not be.
So it sounds like this is the case with your bird.
