How many laying hens please ?

Post by Wozza1985 » 23 Feb 2014, 11:02

Hi I've bought a coop with attached run and the sizes are:
Length: 220cm inc nest box and overhangs
Width: 75cm inc overhangs
Top to bottom: 113 to apex

How many hybrids can I buy so the birds are comfy enough?

Thank you

I visualise in feet and inches, so allow 12" perch space per bird. They're only going to sleep in the house and daytime use will be to use the nestbox. Outdoor space is more important if they are to be in the attached run for most of the time. There you should ideally have 1 sq.yd. per bird. If you're making a larger run around the fixed one (or allowing them to trash your garden)
then this isn't critical.
Guinea fowl & a lot of surplus poultry equipment.
