...but just around the corner there was a woman selling a couple of Gold lace Orpingtons - how's that for good luck ! :grin:

Here's a photo of the cockerel, settled in and off into the woods for a walk with his ever-changing bunch of lady admirers.

I'm still looking for some very dark Marans eggs or even a couple of hens but I don't want to travel too far to get them.

I bought two "Marans" hens from the market at St Astier a few months ago. The girls are now laying little pale beige eggs... :mrgreen:

It might be a trick of the light, but his leg scales look a bit rough - are they okay? :?

He does look like he might have a touch of scaley leg - I'd check it out. However, he is quite a nicely marked GL orp, with a good head and comb, congratulations on finding him in France 8)

Very handsome and excellent luck! He does appear to have scaley leg mite though, which you should treat quickly so that the others don't get them. Easy to deal with at least! Lovely markings too! :mrgreen:

oooooh he's a goodlooking boy, beautiful colouring! Welcome to the forum, I'm 30 miles south of Bergerac!
my chooks: Sage&Onion, Roger the randy cockerel, Squawkbox, Bonnie 'N' Clyde, Pancakes, Custard, Omelette & EggNog. Plus four garden cats and another half dozen feral ones that I feed. And a nursery of pipistrelle bats in the verandah roof ..
