Pigs and streams

Post by lifeflower » 16 Mar 2015, 10:50

Hi all
We would like to move our pigs but one field has access to a burn (stream) running through it.
It runs from our field and then under the road.
If it's been raining it can be up to the top of our wellies in the deepest bit, but most areas are shallower.
Would we need to fence the burn off or would the pigs be ok?
Thank you

I have never kept pigs but I have seen a few free range pigs around here and they have streams running through there patch. I think the main problem would be fencing off the bit of the stream where it leaves your land without it blocking up and causing a flood hazzard :) .

Pigs can swim, so as long as they can't get get trapped and you have a grid to prevent escape at either end, they'll love to have somewhere to make a wallow if the weather ever gets warm enough.
Guinea fowl & a lot of surplus poultry equipment.
