Are they different from other chickens, as I thought you could only feather sex based on the body feather shape from 8 weeks or so?

There are some breeds and strains within breeds that have long feathering/short feathering on the wings as photographed.

There used to be a thread on here about feather testing at 3 days old. I have found it in a search, but it says it doesn't exist when I attempt to open it.
However, here are two links that might help you. From what I recall and the two links, I think you'll find that the females are the one's with longer feathers, and the males have the straight line shorter feathers. See what you think.

Well done, I knew someone would come up with it. I'm going to make this thread a sticky, that way it won't get lost.

Both my Pekin chicks are coqs! I sort of looked at the wing feathers of a couple of this month's hatch and may have a few more boys too :(

As far as i can remember from that thread that Nanny p mentioned i think you have to have a fast feathering breed and a slow feathering breed crossed for it to be an accurate way to sex them by feathering alone, open to correction on that though :-k
Maybe throw up some pics when they are a bit older and we can all have a stab at the sex of each.
