Cockerel Question

Post by lifeflower » 22 Sep 2015, 05:09

We hatched out a couple of Chickens in a brooder and now we think that one of them is a Cockerel. We already have a Cockerel. And now that the Brooder one is growing up we have noticed that both Cockerels are fighting and we have to keep them apart. How do we stop them from fighting and or what do we do about them? Killing one is not an option as I always say Live and Let live as regardless of what species you are you have a right to life. Any suggestions?

Sorry, there's not much you can do. If they are already fighting, your only option is to keep them apart or one will end up dead.
That, or rehome 1 of them.
Happy in Hampshire!

You,re in the wrong hobby if culling is not an option, you bred the birds and its your responsiblity to see that one is either seperated, culled or rehomed.
All these options should be thought out before you go down the hobby breeding route.

Yes, I agree culling is the answer. Culling does seem harsh if you are new to all this palaver, but really it is the only option. I can assure you it is kinder than selling blind to persons unknown who may then pass them on them for fighting. Happened to someone we know. Take a deep breath ..........
