Sewing help for dog coat needed

Ok well I found this Dog Coat design and it had a pattern you can print but what happens when you have a design and you want to cut a bigger shape? Our English Bull Terrier has almost no fut coat atall and suffers badly from the cold over here in our un-insulated log fire heated house in France. He does have a knitted cape thing but he has stretched it so out of shape it just hangs off him now and I'd like to make one out of a less stretchable material.

Any other ideas would help but definitely an answer to the pattern thing would be great

If this is your first go at pattern making make the pattern you have and cut it out of paper . If the paper is stiff cut it out in a bit of scrap fabric - like an old curtain or dust sheet -using your paper pattern. It doesn't need to be finished, just rough. Try it on the dog, then mark on the paper pattern where you need to make adjustments. You should easily see where the places are that in needs altering. You can make another scrap one to be sure you have it right once you have made the adjustments if you feel unsure about cutting up your chosen fabric. Important not to skimp on preparation before you start the real thing, will make all the difference. Once you have the fit right on your practise coat making the real one will be easy.
Give it a go, its not hard and you dont need to get a real sharp and pukka finish, good luck

Trace out another pattern from the existing one. Fold it in half, and then quarters. Cut along the fold lines. Measure dog from neck to tail and girth. Pin in extra centre strips to increase to required size. Broadsheet newspapers are very useful for this exercise!
Guinea fowl & a lot of surplus poultry equipment.

try googling 1 to buy and see if they give an idea of size for the breed that will give you a starting point, if you have some old towels you could make 1 from that then use it as lining for the coat . Good Luck
