Line breeding...

Postby Woodland Hen » 14 Jun 2011, 22:26

Hi all,

any recomendations on a good book which talks in detail about different types of breeding? How close to go withy matings, how the keep records, when/ why you might need to out cross, develope your own line etc?

Very aware this year has been staright forward as it's year one with unrelated birds, but it's going to get more compleicated next year  so want to be prepared.

Thank you!

You can start with father to daughter and mother to son and gradually increase the relationship gap. Record keeping is essential, as is culling of any 2nd class birds from the start.
Guinea fowl & a lot of surplus poultry equipment.
