Has anyone read this book yet ? I thinking of it as Christmas gifts for friends who are New to Chicken Keeping.

I've read this book and it provided me with several evenings reading.

I don't think it would disappoint them - it is the sort of book where there is something for everyone. Nothing new to an experienced keeper but I found the breed information useful.

I have bought the Haynes Chicken Manual and it arrived today. Luckily i have the day off and the OH is watching the Ryder cup. We have just lit the open fire, so gonna put my feet up and have a read. Bliss :grin:

I think the Mini Encyclopedia is the latest (affordable)Chicken book out .That they may have not purchased yet . I know Amazon sells it at a good price. The Haynes Chicken Manual is OK imo.

Not read the book but have met the author. Frances is friends with another of our members - Magpie - who hasn't been on for a while.
She collected 2 cockerels from us last year to pass on to Magpie.

She's very knowledgable about poultry & is, or has been, a judge too I believe. Very nice lady. (& her husband too!) :grin:

Yes the Mini Encyclopedia is a very good book, useful not just to the beginner but also to more experienced keepers as Frances managed to get a number of rare and unusual breeds in.

I might add that a lot of the photos are of my coops and birds...

Just go this book and have to say is a good read for a newbie like me, well illustrated and compact.
