Best not to, I've lost 2 hens due to sour crop. I believe was caused by bread.

Re: A close call...

I put one of these in the garden to water my fruit bushes, by heck even the weimmy wouldn't go near it. Why I didn't think of this last year when foxes were visiting during the day? grrrr. They are very noisy. LOL!! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-Tools-Ltd-868552-Sprinkler/dp/B000LFVTTU/ref=sr_1...

Re: HELP!

Maybe she needs diferent antibiotics and more often, once a day doesn't sound a lot?
Perhaps a visit to the vet for an injection is a good idea seeing that she did start to respond in the begining.
Good luck, she looks a beauty.

Re: Lethargic chicken

So sorry to hear this, they go down hill so quickly. :crybaby: Poor Hettie, RIP little girl.

Worth getting some Daktarin in case another one has the same problem. I always keep some in now, although I don't expect
to have more trouble as I've stopped giving scraps/bread.

Re: Lethargic chicken

Ive learned the hard way, now I NEVER feed scraps/bread only fruit like bananas and cut up grapes. If she doesn't perk up get some Nystan from the vet. It's about £20 I'm afraid but it will cure sour crop in a matter of days. 1/2 mil 5 times a day for 3/4 days if she's really bad. Try to empty the c...

Re: Poorly Hen

Is any fluid coming from her mouth? could be crop problems. Have you given her scraps/bread? I lost a hen through sour crop when she ate some bread that fell out of a birds mouth as it was flying over. She didn't have any smell coming from her until the very end. If there's any experienced keepers n...

Re: Itshappening again (help)

So sorry about your hen. :-( I've never had a hen with a prolase and I've kept all different breeds, I feed them mixed poultry corn and layers half and half. They are free range too. I've stopped with the scraps because of crop problems. I've heard that adding a little CLO now and again maybe once a...
