Re: Electric netting switch

http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf/store/products/mvf-3-way-electric-fence-switch We got our 3-way switch from Mole Valley - £11.82. As we have mains power supply energiser in the garage, this saves having to walk backwards and forwards to the garage every time we want to go in the run. We attache...

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff84/dipstic2007/P1010255_zps566cf3c4.jpg Here's our run. Hopefully once the girls are friends we can get rid of the smaller house. (Which my husband had to knock up in two days - he also made the field shelter). We use hardwood chips meant for playgrounds, which ...

Re: Orpington

Maybe the picture is deceptive, but they are large fowl - very large! Only 8 months old but already as big as our two year old girls.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff84/dipstic2007/P1010248_zpsb547e1c1.jpg These are our newest addition to our flock. Lovely big girls, but not appreciated by the six existing ladies yet. Run is divided and they have their own house for a while, but trying some supervised integration around the ...

Re: Our Hen Houses/ Coops

Yes, I made it myself with with tongue and groove and it has roofing felt on top. The chickens love it and hopefully will spend more time in there in the winter instead of staying in their house as they have water and food in there as well. I've just finished building a small house for one of our gi...

Babushka Eggs

Our Brahma has just laid for the first time in about 6 weeks, due to moulting, we think. This is what she produced. One VERY large egg with hard but thin wrinkly shell, which contained the usual yolk and white, along with another normal egg! http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff84/dipstic2007/P10009...

Re: Scary?

Hate to spoil the illusion, but this is a proper picture of her - more flattering than a full frontal!! She is sweet but don't be taken in by that face - she's not as intelligent as she looks!!

Re: Arthur or Martha

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff84/dipstic2007/P1000629.jpg Thank you for all your replies. She better not have retired, she's supposed to be no more than 18 months old!! This is a picture of her when we first got her in May 2011 which shows how much she's changed shape since then, all part of...

Re: Favorelles

Doesn't 'do' flying? The breeder we got ours from was most surprised when we said we had to clip her wings as we got fed up with having to retrieve her from the roof of the greenhouse! And she's as mad as a hatter!

Re: Arthur or Martha

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff84/dipstic2007/P1000830.jpg We aren't 100% sure she laid eggs, but we found a couple in strange places (under the house, etc) that didn't look like any of the other chicken's eggs, they had lumpy ridges around them, and just assumed they were hersl We know she i...

Arthur or Martha

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff84/dipstic2007/P1000818.jpg This is Bella, our 'alpha' hen. She's a blue orpington. We know that she's a girl, but are mystified by her male characteristics. Not only is she huge, she's got spurs on her legs, increasingly lengthening neck feathers, she laid a co...

Re: Orpington colours, is this a buff x gold laced pullet

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff84/dipstic2007/P1000631.jpg This is our gold lace in the foreground, she's quite young so not full adult plumage yet. She's also a bitch! The others in the picture are a blue orp, splash orp and brahma. Second picture is our buff orp, who is spending a couple of...
