Re: PEN CONSTRUCTION ADVICE

They both have advantages & disadvantages.

It really depends on what your requirements are & whether you need it to be mobile or to stay in one place. ;)

Re: Egg Shell Quality

Do they have oyster shell in with the grit?

If you get some good shells, dry them off & crush them to add into their food. Can sometimes help. ;)

Re: Keeping Foxes Out

Looking good Eglwyseg & a generous size too.

You might want to add a smaller holed mesh to the bottom foot or so, just so the birds can't poke their heads through for Mr.Fox to take a bite at. ;)

A shame no one had any advice for you polish2018. :( I've certainly not come across this problem before.

Did you manage to find out anything & did your hen recover? [-o<

Re: Please advise on this breed?

Not a Welsummer, pure breed anyway. Possibly a RIR as kated said, though she's not really dark enough. or another X-breed but you'll probably never find out for sure. How could anyone just throw any animal out...beggars belief! :angryfire: Could she even get out of the box she was in? Good job you r...

Re: Odd air cell

Hi & welcome to the forum Hollyelliott. :) I don't know anything about ducks unfortunately but would guess that the abnormality might be due to the postal service. Can't see your photos to look at the difference in the air cell. If the chick is developing the same as the others I'd leave it & see if...

Re: serama

Sorry, I don't have any experience with Serama. I was hoping someone would answer your question, though we don't have as many people on here as we did before. I would have thought they incubated the same as any other chicken breed? There is a serama thread in the Breeds section but don't think there...

Re: Floor covering advise please..

I was hoping someone with experience of using this might reply but no one has yet. :( :? I've never used pea gravel but I would guess it's longer lasting then chippings & it would depend on what you put underneath. A membrane would keep the soil from coming to the top, especially as the hens will sc...

Unfair! How are we supposed to keep the rats at bay if it's cost prohibitive to purchase the poison? There are already more rat problems since council 'rat-men (people)' were discontinued.

Re: Laying on floor - and hole in eggs

Is the nest box as dark as possible & have you only one box?

As the others (how many?) are using it maybe the box is occupied when she wants to lay. You could try adding another if there's room. A cardboard box will do as a temporary one.
