And n ow its completely gone again, shes a bit of a madam so she'll puff up at you & make all the beak movements of giving you a good t...

Sonic Fox Repellers , what do you think ?

OH has been looking at these on-line & is wanting to buy us one, its the sonic emitter type with a strobe light jobby as well, & the blurb says it only affects foxes & no other animals. Any one used one ? I am 100% sceptical - from 30 odd years of keeping poultry the only way I've found to keep them...

Re: Those with duckling experience...

I usually use some of those wooden decking squares that you can get from B & Q or garden centers - I put them inside a wide, shallow container ie the bottom of a large indoor rabbit cage & put the water container ( a dogs bowl ) in it , making sure they have easy access, I drilled a hole in one corne...

Re: Flamin' magpies :-(

Would love an owl but we have too many birds anyhow atm, would also love an air rifle but would be severely tempted to shoot the nieghbours too :-) , the owner of the farm has offered me the loan of the larssen trap plus a resident magpie when things calm down there, honestly for the past few weeks ...

Flamin' magpies :-(

:angryfire: We have had a wonderfull magpie free period - untill now  This morning we found one in the trap at the farm, which has been set since about the end of march, we've had a right job with them going into the hen houses & stealing the eggs, its not just the stolen eggs but when they've...

Re: So, what sex is my canada goose ?

Cheers for that guys, I've never tried to do the internal sexing thing because I read if you get it wrong then their willy won't retract 8-[ ? - it was bad enough when our drake was over exhuberantly mating with the girls & his got jammed out, I ended up having to do the warm bath treatment to a ver...

So, what sex is my canada goose ?

Apologies if this is a tad long. Summer of 2012 we were given a gosling,she/he/it( I'll call her it ' her' for now ) had been picked up by some walkers on the moors, they'd carried her in a pocket for most of the day, come the time they went to the carpark to collect their car & go home the novelty ...

Re: What ever next?

MMmm ,well well my chooks take themselves to bed every night at near dusk, I check them all as I shut their doors, but I don't think a reflective jacket would be of any use at all unless one had been taken badly & was so ill it couldn't come back to the house, & you'd only create chaos by taking the...

Re: Cayuga duck going grey ??

From what I read up when I was looking to buy these, it's quite a normal thing for them to lose colour after 2 or 3 years, and to eventually end up with more white than black. I guess like us, even poultry go grey through the years. Shame really though because they are such a stunning colour for th...

Aggression between female ducks ?

Just to set the scene, I have a small flock of 6 ducks, 1 drake & his 5 ladies. The drake is the oldest duck in the flock & is very aggressive all year round. The ladies are Jessie & Tiny (age unknown but laying ) who are Aylesburys & have been with the drake for the last 3 years, Melvyn (we thought s...

Re: De horning an adult goat

Red tags are replacement tags for ones that have been lost, the other( nice tempered ) goat still has her original pink tag , registering her to my friends holding when the paperwork comes through. The other goat is booked in on friday to have the horn removed, its our usual large animal vet who wil...

Re: Will I get winter eggs??

We've not had eggs for weeks now, from a flock of 25 birds, aged from a few ancient ones to this years (technically) POL,we're expecting things to start up again at around christmas time as they usually do, else its a minibus down to the jobcentre for them ! Seriously though, our birds have no artif...
