Our worst fears have been realised.
This afternoon between 1pm & 3.30pm a fox has killed 10 of our birds with 1 still missing. 2 are badly injured & I don't know if they will survive.
We're devastated. |

The trouble is I still like fox's but not this one, They are native to this country and they deserve to survive like badgers etc etc. Not like mink coypu gray squirrel witch are not native to this country. I could keep on but ill leave it at that I'm very sad and thank you for all your thoughts |

Sorry CP..hate to lose them to anything, esp Mr Fox. I suppose I wouldn't mind as much if they only took one bird at need but they don't.
Wishing the survivors well. |

Surprisingly the 2 injured ones are still alive this morning. I have a vet's appointment later, but I'm still not sure if they'll make it.
Lost another one in the night - shock I expect. One more looks very subdued but the others are all asking when they can be let out.
Luckily it never got into the coop so all the broodies are fine. We have 26 survivors out of 38, adults & chicks.
Summayah, if you still read the forum, we lost Molly. Waldren, we also lost Nettie.
Henwife, all 4 of the Nankin chicks are gone. |

Thanks all for your kind words & PM's they are most appreciated.
Poor Bella who is the one with the worst injuries has laid me an egg this morning.
I'll admit I bawled like a baby this morning when it finally hit home. We're gutted, especially as AR has been working on extra security since the PK meet.
The b****r got over the plastic oil tank we think, but got out straight up over an 6' fence with wire on the top to make it 8' as we could see scratch marks on the wood & tell-tale tufts of fur on the top of the wire.
We're thinking we'll have to put some kind of roof over at least part of their run & make it smaller. It may be the only way of keeping our girls safe in the future. |
