I have 7 Bovan Goldline hybrids all of which are apparently very healthy. Due to a fox problem I had to get another 6 leaving 1 original and 6 new. They seem to have integrated quite well although the original one does on occasion be on the receiving end of the odd peck and squawk. This hen has also developed a quite pronounced limp from the left leg. In the recent wet weather some of the ground was quite muddy and so I cleaned the feet of all of the birds regularly. I can see no damage to the foot, no breaks in the skin or sores. Where else could this limp be stemming from? The hen is still feeding and laying. Should I be aware of anything else?

Second question - I have heard of a powder for mites. I use softwood shavings in the hen house and was wondering if I should also be using some sort of powder. If so what is it and where can I get it from?

Many thanks

Hi Gary,

Hens, like us can pull a tendon, which might be why she's limping.

It's a good idea to use something for mites, we use to use Diatom

I use Barrier red mite powder as well. Sprinkle bedding and chickens too, especially under the wings and vent area.
