These are a breed local to Skåne, Sweden. They are very endangered, with only around 145 ducks left in Sweden. Until 1977 they were thought to be extinct, when a small flock was found in the village of Billinge, Skåne.
Male
Female
There is a bit more info here. |

The pictures above are of our as yet unnamed pair, we collected them last night
They have just finished moulting the female particularly will fade to a much paler yellow/brown colour

I certainly hope so, with only 145 left I hope to do everything I can to keep them going. They have a reputation for being a good layer laying up to 130/year so i'll be very disappointed if we don't get some. Meanwhile I'm on the look out for more unrelated birds |

| I cant understand why ducks so pretty could be so rare. Good luck with finding unrelated stock. |

| I'd guess that when the more modern duck breeds came along that were even more prolific, faster growing, etc, the "peasant" breeds, like the gul anka, suddenly became less attractive. According to my Swedish teacher, the Industrial Revolution reached Danish farming in the 1940s, and Sweden in the 1960s. |

I've been doing more research into the background of these and I've come to one conclusion, the name is translated incorrectly. In Swedish gul [as in gul anka] does mean yellow, but they also translate buff in the context of Orpingtons as 'gul'. I think these should really be translated as buff ducks and would make them the Swedish equivalent of the Buff Orpington duck,
IF and it's a big IF, I've translated the colour correctly from the Native Poultry Society standard correctly they should be a rich [possibly deep] fawn or seal brown nothing to do with yellow at all..

yes, this is the real yellow swedish!!! the 2 ducks in the other pictures are not real yellow swedish...
a fault to avoid is the lacing... their colur is a yellowish brown, just like buff orpington (ducks or chickens), buff calls or runners...
they are actually buff, but very close to yellow, so their name is right...
it's a medium breed, lighter than blue swedish but they lay better.
it's a beautiful breed, one of my favourite, i hope to see it at the next european show...come on swedish people, bring us your fancy fowl!!

Thank you for your comments.
I know the kakel site very well as I am a member of Svenska Lanthönsklubben [slk]. You are however in error over your analysis. They are yellow ducks and I have the SLK papers for them. Like all of the birds covered by the SLK Genebank they are a landrace with no breed standard attached. The Swedes do not breed them for their looks. To get Genebank papers like I have for the birds in the pictures they must come from a SLK registered flock - that is the only defining factor as to what makes a Swedish Yellow Duck.
Also as an aside it is not a lighter bird than the Swedish Blue if you'd read the SLK site that you gave the link to you'd know that in both breeds ducks are 2.5-3.0kg and drakes 3.0-3.5kg. I don't wish to cause an arguement here but can I suggest you actually do some research before you jump in and tell me that my birds are not what they are.
As one of your favourite breeds you may be interested by this information [in english]

thank u very much, so i think thai i did read some wrong informations about that breed on the web... and i don't speak swedish so i knew the SLK site just for the amazing pictures!!
don't you have a standard for your breeds?
on the entente europeenne site they describe the yellow swesish like a variety of the swedish, but that's wrong...
and is the swedish blue the same swedish breeded in other countries?or is that a pomeranian with a wrong name??
there's o much confusion about some breeds... |
