Just had a call to go and pick up the vaccine for my 9 sheep. Has anyone already vaccinated theirs? If so - any reactions?

Not yet, picking my vaccine up tomorrow hopefully (if it arrives, supposed to be here this Monday Rolling Eyes ) Had some neighbours call in yesterday, apparently no-one in the area is going to bother Shocked Shocked Shocked (cant believe that, but still....) as they cant move their stock for 60 days. Is it just me, or are people really badly informed or maybe just willfully badly informed?? They also cited the expense...... hmm, me thinks the 55p per sheep justifies the £17.50 plus removal of a dead sheep or the astronomical cost of nursing a sick sheep through it with no guarantees it will a useful animal if it pulls through Confused Confused

The only slight snag for me is the "dont vaccinate 2 weeks either side of tupping" thing. However, on speaking to the vets, its more to do with the stress of handling the ewes not the effects of a dead vaccine on the potential lambs. So, I'm going to combine it with sponging my pedigrees as they will be being handled then anyway and hope for the best!!

For anyone thats worried by the rumours that it causes abortions/deaths, they are just that. Rumours. Its like saying that Hep P causes death and abortions. It cant as its a dead vaccine so please vaccinate if you can. Its even more critical now ******* are importing infected stock from abroad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Thanks for that - all done (only got 9). I agree bronskibeat, I can't understand anyone not vaccinating, it's not expensive - although the smallest bottle is 20ml (going to exchange the rest for a few bales of hay with my friendly sheep farmer Very Happy ). Not due to put the ram in till end of this month so pleased to get it out of the way now. Only thing I'm not sure is that they say in the bumff that there is no time agreed yet for boosters but they recomend re vaccinating before the danger period ?????

Vaccination seems to be compulsory here in France. Vets are ringing folk again and again with reminders.

There is some anecdotal evidence that it can cause early foetal loss in cattle. The vaccine hasn't been able to be long term tested and from what I've seen it is affecting a small percentage, I've seen more cows returning after a positive scan this year.

We have had our Pygmy goats done and no reactions - around here every one seems to be getting their stock vaccinated.

DEFRA mucked up my show season well and truly with the boundaries. My goats were finally vaccinated in August with the last shot the other week.
All goats are fine and have shown no reactions whatsoever. They were injected just behind the elbow and I was expecting the odd lump, but nothing to show.
