|
|
| Hi everyone, i wonder if you could help me? i was left with 4 orphaned chicks about 4 weeks ago (due to a friends dog killing my mother chicken) and up until now they have been sleeping on straw in their box in their pen. My question is: at what age do i introduce a perch? They are 10 weeks old now but seperated from the adult chickens at night until 16 weeks. They free range with them in the garden most of the day quite happily, but don't have any chickens to teach them at night. I suppose it will have to be a thin perch (like Nanny P's photos of her shrub which i loved by the way) to start with for their little claws. |

| Thanks for your reply Justchickens as i hadn't really thought about it but reading Nanny P's message about her 13 week chicks got me thinking........ I will hold off for a couple of weeks. Going on holiday at the beginning of Sept so i will try to introduce it before i go. |

I put a perch in with my chicks when they where 4 weeks old just to see iwhat they would do with it.
They are now approx 5 weeks old I went to check on them last night and all of them where fast asleep on the perch.
So I guess put a perch in when you feel like it & they will use it when they feel ready |
