My ex-batts have put themselves to bed for the first time! This is their sixth night here and it's pouring with rain - I'm so glad I haven't got to round them up and physically put them in the coop!

They've been playing on a branch today, I put it in the run today on the ground because of their still weak legs. They love it!

Very Happy

Thats Fab, really glad to hear they are settling in well. ..... sorry for stealing the link a little but do you have any suggestions for things to put in the run with the chooks? Mine have a DIY bin lid shelter at the moment but it would be nice to give them something else for entertainment.

Jessjess, sorry for not getting back sooner, I literally lost the thread.......

The ex-batts are in a run 6'x12', half grass and the other half bare soil. (Now a mud patch) The only items in there are the feeders and drinkers and the branch which is about 3'' diameter, and they think it's wonderful!

My friend describes the main run as a 'hens adventure playground'. Embarassed There are shrubs and a log pile to climb around on, and a large area of grass to peck at. Then there's the shelter made out of close boarded pallets, which has large pots of herbs on the top for them to nibble at, and a hanging basket I put greenstuff in for them.

And the two day roosts.

They all like to go onto either the top of the shelter or the roosts for a preen and a siesta.

Almost forgot the CDs hanging up. (But they don't seem to bother with them.)

Don't think I've forgotten anything!! Embarassed Laughing

I have never thought of giving my hens some form or entertainment, but obviously it sounds as thought they enjoy something to do. There again, my are out free ranging all day, so I suppose they can find their own amusement. I am intrigued as to what everyone does provide for their chickens to do, though!
