The LS cockerel I rehomed has very red skin, it seems to be the same all over, though a bit hard to tell, he's a bit big to handle much! Despite being red, it doesn't look inflamed, no more than a cocks comb does. It's comb is fine, very firm and red. I have looked for lice and found no sign.
So I am wondering is this colour normal? |

I have seen cockerals before with very red skin and no obvious signs of mites. I would dust him anyway just to make sure, if you have any powder .
My marans cockerals had red skin and they never had mites. Its not something that I would be particularly worried about |

I notice that after I dust for mites & lice, one of my girls goes a bit red, especially on her breast & undercarriage....I think she may be a little allergic to permetherin. I've changed the powder but it's the common ingrediant. Just a thought.
I have australorps and they have red faces and necks naturally. In fact the redder the better for the breed. So it's possible that it's just the colour of it's skin, like Silkies have blue/black.
Then again, I'm no expert. |
