Hi, I got given two Bantams by a neighbor on Saturday as they were dumped on her and upsetting her broody geese. Anyone got any idea what breed they are and if they might be good layers? They are settling in well with the exception of some unwanted attention from the cat! Thanks all. Jess

I have no idea, they look like little cross breeds. They should be good layers, most bantams are.

I thought they might be crosses. The lady who gave them to us said silkie crosses but they don't look mush like a slikies to me. Good to know they will make good layers though.

They have settled in well despite the initial upset. Our cat took too much of an interest in them and we had to raise the fence by another 4 foot. She had no interest in them when they were 4 doors along, now though it is like we brought her the best present possible. She has now been forced to enjoy the sport of chicken watching and it has become her number one activity. Although she is miffed at not being able to get through the fence and is convinced with enough effort she can force her whole body through the chicken wire, surly if one foot fits the rest of her will!!!!

The chicks have settled in well and are our first two they are going to be joined in the next couple of weeks by a pair of Pekin Bantams and a hybrid. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I was hoping that would happen but she was stalking them and doing the bum wiggle pounce thing. the chooks were flapping and running away and that was making her more excited, so we decided to be better safe than sorry and raised the fence! Ahh well you live and learn.
