Can anyone advise. I have two Silver laced wyandotte bantams and both are 14 weeks old. I am trying to determine if they are pullets but cannot be sure as both look identical apart from one is slightly larger than the other. Neither have started to get the silver back feathers which I have seen on pictures of the cockerels. I also have some Silver Sussex and brown leghorn bantams and was able to determine that they were cockerels three weeks ago because of their coloring. Any advice will be welcome.

| what about posting a pic. What about the size of comb, if they are pullets at 14 weeks there shouldn't be much of a comb but a cockeral would be pronounced. |

That said, wyandotte combs being flat aren't as much help as conventional combs - my LF silver-laced wyandotte cockerels took forever to show themselves - I didn't take notes of when I knew what I'd got, but my recollection is that at 14 weeks it was still far from clear. Plumage was also indistinguishable between the sexes until very late indeed too.

I agree that with the rose comb it is not as easy as it is with the larger combed bantams. I also believe that the cockerels plumage may be later developing than other breeds. The other issue which I would like to mention is that Silver Laced Wyandotte combs are of of a very deep red and more pronounced than the combs on my buff laced and gold laced. However, I am going to attempt to put a picture on. Never done this before so bear with me.

No, you need to host it somewhere first.
Either apply for gallery space on here - link at the top of the page, or use another site. There's lots of free ones. A well known one is Photobucket, but there are others too.  |
