any one out there know which type of hand held power tools will cut oak barrel staves please...............dont ask.........oh allright i have a wine barrel and thought i would like to make a garden armchair but havnt got the strength to hand saw it

you need an angle grinder, or a helpful neighbour, or sometimes my method is just keep doing a little bit get there in the end Very Happy

I think you'll find an angle grinder is a bit too messy and imprecise for your needs Mojo. They tend to leave about a half inch slot and using one to cut wood results in an awful quantity of dust getting into the air. For straight line cuts I would use a circular saw and for fiddly curved bits either a jigsaw or a router.

I was thinking of the metal bit Embarassed speed reading the only problem with a jigsaw it tends to go off course and not get a nice clean cut I would try to get some strong youngster to help bribe them with a meal perhaps ?

A further thought mojo. If you are likely to be undertaking more construction tasks in wood it might well be worth investing in a table saw similar to those described on this page: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/categories/search/table-saws-workshop-saws-2 . I seem to remember that equipment like this tends to be less expensive in France than in the UK.
