Last year I had my first lambs - 3 ewes, they are Ryland x Herdwick, and we said that, as they are xbreeds, they would be going in the freezer - GULP. Well the time has come - GULP- they go on the 24th Jan - GULP, I've chickend out - my husband is taking them. I've now got my own Ryland ram and, hopefully, the girls are pregnant again so there will be more lambs in March but these were my first - GULP.

You'll never look back once you've tasted them Chris, honest!! I used to feel awful taking mine as they went in to a paddock at the back of the butchers on a Monday night and were then killed first thing Wednesday morning.... I would sometimes drive past on a Tuesday and feel terrible. That soon stopped once there was a nice joint of lamb in the oven If you are anything like me, you soon wont have lamb in a restaurant because its never as good as your own |

They've gone , they went into the trailer quite happily with some food and hay as if going on an adventure - I know i will get over it but I feel a right Judas at the moment. Have to admit that I am looking forward to eating our own lamb though .
