| My parents are both in their 80's and manage to get themselves in all sorts of bother. yesterday Dad rang ,in a distressed state, to say he'd reversed the car into Mum !! Dashed up to the hosp to find that fortunately no bones were broken but that she had the most awful gash on her leg.I have to say that she was much braver than me about it as she kept thanking the medics for helping her in spite of them causing her pain. She's home and dosed with pain killers so hopefully she'll be OK but he is now wondering if he should continue to drive which will cause lots of problems for them [and me as i'll have to be the taxi] . Ho Hum !!What are your parents like? |

Oh God thats awful! Your poor mum - I hope she gets better soon! and you Poor dad! he must feel dreadful. I hope things work out OK for them.
Spana once manged to get herself run over by her own car, with nobody driving it It was awful at the time and she was very very lucky and only had some bruising on her knees. I think the shock of it was the worst thing. Its quite something to be run over by your own poo brown chevette!! ( sorry shouldn't laugh really) |

If your father is normally a safe driver, he should continue driving. Accident's happen unfortunately, and if he stops driving because of this your mother will beat herself up for being in the wrong place, and your father will feel even worse about it.
My Father stopped driving in his mid 80s because he realised that central Edinburgh had an excellent public transport system & he could use a bus pass. My mother was always a danger behind the wheel - it was quite a relief when her licence was removed because of failing sight! |

| When they take into account the cost of keeping a car on the road they should be able to afford a taxi at least home with the shopping maybe going on a bus yes it is a change but things do, lots of supermarkets have free buses too. I bet you Father is so upset my Dad died at 64 so never got like that Mum used to go on the buses but at 82 now my Sister takes her as she lives close by I live more than 2 hours drive away |
