Would it be ok to house bantam Wyandottes (over-sized for showing) with Barnevelders? The Wyandottes would be POL and the Barneys 16 weeks. Thanks, Liz

Hi Liz,

I have my bantam New Hampshire Reds in with my LF Light Sussex and Welsumers, on the whole they generally get on ok, although the introduction was a bit worrying

If you can, put the bantams in first and then introduce the LF and not the other way around

I have bantams, standards and ducks all living together - including half grown chicks at the moment - both bantam and standard.

like everyone else I have a mixed bag living together ~ 6wk bantams, 8wk large fowl and bantams, point of lay large fowl and full grown bantams and large fowl, all in one house. No problems. I have gradually added the newcomers at night ~ letting them go to bed in their own small house and then putting them in the big house.
As the others say it would be better to let the little ones be owners of the house and the others come in second

Oh I was so hoping it would be alright. Yippee now I can get more chooks! I am picking up the Barneys in September so I'll get on and source those Wyandottes now,

Mine are all together, mixed large and small, some 18 months old, some 14 weeks old and not too bad Very Happy

funny i came across this, as was looking for a post of a similar nature for advice - going to put the black rocks and buff orp cock in with the bantie wyandottes tonight.....

first time, in the bantie house (as other one is falling apart!) they are accustomed to each other as all free range together, tho the banties are scared of the lf - hope it will go smoothly.
have taken the perch and nest box out of the lf house now, and installed into the bantie, so just gotta wait for the big ones to go to sleep tonight, then do the move!! would be great to see their expressions in the morning.. "how did i get here???" "who spiked the water??" LOL Very Happy

fingers crossed though, as i am nervous!

hi!

well the move went reasonably well, first problem was we moved the bantie run to a place it hadnt been before, so they panicked as they couldnt find it!! finally got them all in, (just before one tried a tree for the night) then waited... Confused

did the move later, biggest squawk came from bruno, buff orp cockerel! lol was funny think hes a big girls blouse really..

all ok in the morning, and yesterday the big ones were no prob, a couple of the little ones were ok, but some panicked again and needed guidance. all ok again this morning!! Wink

today will be tough, as going out tonight, so have to attempt to get them all in before i go out, when its still light! i can see fun and games with that one Exclamation
