One of my favourite breeds is the 'Friese hoen'. It is a race which has
been there for ages around the farms in the north of the Netherlands,
Friesland. I have the miniature version in gold-pel.
Some remarks: it is said this breed seldom broods but I have other
experiences. Mine are often 'broods'. Also it is said these birds keep
some distance from humans. Mine are very tame. I can feed them out
of the hand easily and one of them even flies on my arm. Maybe it is
because mine run free all day that makes this difference. They are
causious, but not nervous.

| Brilliant photographs of absolutely stunning birds. Are they bantams or large fowl, or do they come in both sizes? |

These are bantams, but they do come in both sizes. They are not big, execellent flyers and very hardened. The breed 'specs' say that they keep
some distance to humans but mine are very tame. One of them does a little circus trick, when I got a little piece of cheese she will fly on my arm from quit a distance to get it. They are very agile, and the mothers defend their little ones fanaticly.

| They will definitely go on my wish list - though whether I'll ever be able to get any hatching eggs is another matter. They sound very like Fayoumis by nature - I keep silver bantams - in that they are hardy, and keep their distance, but we have three very tame ones, with a weakness for cheesy biscuits, and the odd sip of red wine (blame my husband for that). |

Sip of red wine ????
I though I was decadent feeding my hens cheese leftovers
now and then. Better drink the red wine yourself. |

| Husband sits out in the garden on fine evenings with bottle of red wine and little biscuits. The three Fayoumi are now so tame they leap on to the table and try his wine too if he's sufficiently engrossed in his book! |

Hmmm, would be interesting if they have an opinion about the
quality of the wine. Make a video when they return drunk to their run
The little Fries here below is also taking a sip in an unuasual way !

You sure the little chick in the water isn't a half-bred duck?
They really are lovely pictures. |

I complained to the person that I got the eggs from that he had given
me duck-eggs ....
They are strange, funny and proud birds. What can not be seen on
these picts is that the hens often hold their tale upwards in a very
proud way. Like a Sebright.
And this one 'died' of sun overexposure
