Just wanted to say hi to all. Just waiting for my first ever batch of eggs, got the incubator set up and ready, so I am sure I will have loads of boring questions to post in the near future. Embarassed

Thought about starting with a couple of 'rescue' hens, but would have had to travel a fair bit for them, thought this way would teach the kids much more

Breeds are a mixed lot:-

Araucana (green/blue egg)
Appenzeller Spitzhauben
Barnevelder
Pekin
Hamburg
Ancona
Silkie
Wyandotte

Not sure what any of those are and some may be cross as they run around in the yard together. Will be getting them fresh on friday. If you have any views on any of the breeds, any special care, any delicate etc, I would be more than grateful for the information and advice.

Name is paul, by the way. Partner is called Criss, you may find her on here once in a while. I will post pictures at every stage of development and welcome any advice.

I only have knowledge of: Barnevelders - very laid back & friendly, & Wyandottes - not quite so friendly, a bit flighty & if mine are anything to go by, very prone to going broody! Very Happy
All mine were/are bantams but I suppose the LF are round about the same in temperament etc. Wink

Hi there from a Cornish exile - used to live in Newquay and dad worked in Cambourne sometimes - fire brigade. Been here for 27 years though! lol!

Good luck with your poultry, we started with eggs too - great fun although you have to wait a while for your first breakfast egg! Wink

Hello there. I'm new to. I really am doing it the long way round, lots of research and money saving before diving in head first. Theres tonnes to learn, Ive only been on this web forum a few days and I have learned loads already, so by the time those eggs begin to crack you'll be well prepared by all the brain boxes on here!

Have you started buying all your stuff yet? I'm in the middle of compiling my shopping list at the moment, let me know if you need any pointers on what you will need (Its just about the only advise I can give you!)

Good luck cant wait for your further posts
