For a little while....caught one in a trap about a week ago though
OH had a chat with Eco Labs Pest Control guy who was doing stuff for the local council. Very interesting.
1. One way to eradicate them is either to put peanut butter, tuna or cheese in a trap...they go mad for peanut butter and/or,
2. Put a meat pie in the middle of the lawn just before dark and have a big torch and air rifle....They gather for a feast, the light startles them and pop, goodbye rats! Stupidly they return quite easily.
He reckons that rat poison has its limits and although he uses it for industrial places but for us, the above is quite good too.
Oh and how deep did you put your fencing into the ground.....they can dig upto 6 foot deep when hungry |

Gave them the peanut butter first off. Didn't touch it.
Next the cheese, didn't touch it
Then read on that other site, where we only go when feeling really brave, that fruit and nut choc was a sure thing with rats. Bought a big bar and put a lump in two traps. That was 10days ago. Haven't touched it
Me and OH have eaten the rest |

Maybe they've gone to the local takeaway instead! |

No such luck. They're digging holes around the traps. |

In my illogical or logical way?.....I figured a while ago that if they are desperate to get into the run then they are after a food that is in there..... crumbs, eggs, layers etc....so why not bait with that.....
OH is setting up his sights on the air rifle this weekend and I am going to get the safari hats and shorts ready for the the hunt |

What a clever girl you are. Seems Sooooooo obvious now you've pointed it out.
Off now to re-bait the traps. Will let you know if it works |

Yep, worked last night.
First night just sprinkled a tiny little bit of wheat where they dig through. Last night put the trap down where the wheat was the night before without any bait in it and just sprinkled a little wheat on the trap. Got one.
I caught quite a few when I started setting the traps a few weeks ago, but they seemed to get wary of the bait.
Set it again with a little wheat tonight. Thanks |
