Thought you might like to see my works in progress:
This is going to be sewn to a throw for a certain student's bed - when she comes home with the throw!
When this is finished it will have more stars, a trunk and a pot - and be a tree!
This is one of the previous motifs (different fabric though! ) - I thought if I put a sequin in the middle they would make nice tree decorations. What do you think?

| Thanks, Kirsty chose the bluey fabric on holiday - it is flannel so I needed something thick to team it with and found the burgundy velvet in my wardrobe! |

You got the "how to" to do the tree? It looks like cathedral window turned inside out... Uh oh, I can see another project coming on and maybe a rummage in the numerous boxes of fabric up the stairs.... |

Been off work for 6 weeks! Mind you, not been up to doing anything much until this week!
The piece for the throw is about 27" across, and machine sewn. I also have a couple of other projects on the go - cushion covers for xmas pressies, and a hexagon piece I think will go on another throw when it's big enough - that's my sitting in front of the tv project.
The tree is made from triangles (measure 6" equilateral), 2 fabrics sewn right sides together 1/4 inch seam with a gap left and then turned after trimming corners.
Find the centre by folding triangle 2 ways and seeing where creases meet.
sew all 3 points to centre. (makes hexagon)
Turn piece over and finding centre of the side of the hexagon that doesn't have a fold from last instruction, bring this to centre and sew in place.
When all 3sides have been done you have one piece for tree - you need 10.
If step by step photos would help let me know. |

wow you are clever, i wish i had the patience for sewing. In needlework classes at school I used to spend the whole lesson going around the classroom threading and rethreading everyone's machines, for some reason i couldn't get the hang of the actual sewing and the rest of them couldn't get the hang of threading them. I never did make anything! I used to knit a lot tho when my sister was having her children and a little less when I was having my own, I loved knitting baby clothes (until it was time to sew the pieces all together!!!) well done JD it looks fab! |

That is lovely.......
I use to patchwork but hung up my scraps I made one once that was supposed to be a throw, but put too much wadding into it and it ended up as one of those old fashioned eiderdown type mini duvet things...you know the one, in reds and russets.
I used a real old singer sewing machine, not with a bobbin but with a shuttle, with a hand turning mechanism.....so when I say I made one, I say I made one by "hand" |

| My grandmother had one of those! They certainly were built to last plus the cabinet and cast iron work were lovely to look at. Her machine used to be in pride of place in the family room/dining room. I think my mother has it now. |
