now how do we convince mum we really need a shetland. seriously there lovely animals and the calves are lovely. unfortunely I want the 1 on the rigth so I think I'm going to have to fight it out. nonie

They are lovely. They look friendly too. You can't get that close to the cattle on the farm where I keep my horse.

aww lovely looking cows! are they big?! ah ive looked compared to the people they are average then! i love the calves they are pretty colours!

ok i've done it Shocked i have just under an acre at home now and 3 on 1 croft and 1 and a half on the another ,the lady who owns the croft said anything i wanted to keep it wouldn't be a problem
goats waste hay ,they pick through it and the hay that falls into the trough ,a cow can eat ,and i ownly want to keep my 3 first sheep and lamb them and 2 wethers ,and i'm building a big shed and i mean big so in the winter she would be in all the time it was dark ,so i've ordered a shetland cow ,told the chap i don't mind waiting so because he has the small traditional type i've booked his first heifer Very Happy

it'll be a long while yet ,i was looking for the pics that jaydee put on Very Happy so that i could show oh as he was worried because he is used to nonies big dairy cows they are huge ,i wanted a cow for years now and having looked again they look as they would fit in well Cool

ichoose the one on the right months ago as it looked a rite boony beastie...so glad for you suxz,,,,,,old breeds really are the way to go for a smallholder......small and hardy......the cow not the smallholder............ah well maybe both

thanks jaydee ,had the tape measure out last night to show him and he says it makes sense ,he hates goats cheese ,but loves cheese so ,nonies worries that we willn't use as much of the goats milk ,she also say's we're going to be drowning in milk
are your brother in laws commercial or traditional Question

He bought a cow in calf to help save the breed - and now look at him! Not sure of the distinction between commercial and tradtional.
