Don't know how long it takes for hen and chick to recognise each other.... they may already be bonded if the last one hatched yesterday. If you don't think anything else is going to hatch you could take away any eggs that are left, that may encourage the hens to take the chicks for food and water.

Right, I have given one of the 7 chicks to the other broody and she has taken to it fine so far (nestled under O.K). The other one is now not as settled but still sitting....some of her chicks were hatched friday and as far as I know she hasn't taken them to water/food.

She is in a nest box in a house with a run and I have noticed that there is a bit of a lip and just now when one of the bantam chicks got down it they couldn't get back up Sad . Here is a pic to give you some idea...

you can just see the bit of wood along front of nestbox.

I think i need to try and move her so she is in the house bit?

I have now moved her into the house bit...I made a nest and moved her chicks one by one and she followed...she then settled down and they have all gone under her....she is still just sitting - shouldn't she be encouraging the chicks to eat?
I have taken away all pieces of eggs that were left from the hatch and she doesn't have any unhatched eggs.

The other one, in the rabbit hutch, has the food and water in there aswell. They were hatched yesterday so not so concerned about them!...

Going out now, over to ashford near you! (farmers market?might be finished now though!) need to get out stop me looking/findling!

Nice to see them Gina, and to hear that she is doing what comes naturally.
I was watching Blue this afternoon, clocking at her chicks as I was throwing down sultanas. She picked them up and held them in her beak for the chicks to jump and peck at Laughing
Mind you, if they're not quick enough, she eats them herself.

Knobby, get soem photos done soon Laughing

Yes, the dark one is a maran. The other two could be light sussex?...although they look different in colour in the pic they are not really. I got a bit confused in the end about what had hatched and what hadn't!

The choices are - light sussex, RIR or new hampshire red?

This is a pic of the other one with some of her chicks...

Above is RIR chicks or new hampshire reds?

Then here is the same chick plus the little one which is a mille de fluer?(can't remember whole name!)
There is another maran but it is very small. and under mum so not in pic!
