for dreamers and realists, by the truly great John Seymour, is an absolute essential.
It's got good coverage of chickens and loads more besides for eveything you need to know - whether you just have a window box on the 15th floor or you own half your county.
Amazing stuff in there.
I can't put it down - it's his fault we're trying to do what we are - when i went to the book shop i was after a basic book on allotments!!! Soi be warned -you don'tknow how close we came to buying a cow when we lived in a terraced cottage!!!! |

| It follows a similar path to 'The complete guide..' It's more personal and despite it's very sad beginings it's a joyful and uplifting book that gives a true and thoroughly delightful explanation of how a completely penniless family got a rich, satisfying life in the English countryside. Witty, cranky, and hopeful: A classic! |

This book started us out (over 10 years ago) with a few veggies in our small urban yard, we read it for pleasure and information, a great book. Can't convince hubby on the pig though.... |

| I bought the old original one of these for my mums birthday. She had researched it and found a lot reviews saying good, but original the best. I had a quick flick through it and really enjoyed the book. I would certainly recommend it...It didnt seem that much different to the new one to be honest. Its got loads of stuff, basic butchery, vegetable patch, fencing, outbuildings. Everything really. |
