Hmmm... we could do with some pictures on this topic!

Here's a few of mine - past and present.

I'm sure that'll give you all something to look at! Shocked Laughing

Please note that some of the above are silkied - just a normal Serama, but with feathers like a silkie!

There's some more pics of other peoples birds on the SCGB site, which Rich posted the link to above. Very Happy

Nice birds! Im really tempted to hatch some next year. Are they bigger than Pekin bantams?

No they are smaller and lighter than Pekin Bantams the adult males are up to 600 grammes as opposed to 680-790 grammes for a Pekin male, ideally the lighter and smaller the better in top condition and to type. The females up to 500 grammes as opposed to 570-680 for Pekin adult females.
They are easy to keep but incubation and hatching can carry high mortality rates like Japanese bantams so you need to be 'on the ball' with them at all times during the incubation and young stage even then there is no guarantee. When you succeed its worth the effort.

Size wise, the birds I posted, weighed, fully mature:
Cockerels - 320 - 520g
Hens - 260 - 385g

First and foremost, I ALWAYS think about type. I would far rather have a 550g cockerel with fantastic type than I would a 250g cockerel shaped like a dutch!

I'm temporarily cutting back to 2 boys for the moment, and one of them will be a 520g boy. He's the largest boy I've had in a good while, but I think he;s the typiest Serama cockerel I've ever owned, so I'd far rather continue with him than I would keep back a midget whose type was not so good.
