Gina...sounds like you have your hands full! Is there a way to give one chick to each mum? That should settle things down a lot. The one that is worked up over not having any, might not settle down without one, even though seperated.

O.K it has been a right carry on here!...situation now is -

1 broody left in peace with 5 eggs and 2 chicks, sitting happily.

Other broody now in rabbit hutch with 4 eggs, sitting happily.

1 chick hatched in the meantime, in incubator!...going to put it in with one of the broodys overnight. Not sure which one!....

do i have to wait until chick is dry and fluffy before moving it?...even though it would be going under a broody?

I would wait, just because you will have to have it out of the heat to transfer it. Confused

heck i am confused with all the coming and goings.natures rule dont fiddle if everything is ok NEVER take a hen off to to poo if she has chicks ..... maternal instinct is stronger than constipation....never allow 1broody in the same house as an other they upset each other as the first to chick is envided by the other so will chick steal.....if out of view usually go back to eggs out of sound helps too.put the food for a sitter (no chicks)just outside the door so she has no rteason to stray.................sorry thats the best i can do except say good luck....mojo

i am confused too!....

thankyou mojo for tips....in all the time they sat together it never occured to me what would happen when one chick hatched first! (doh)

I put the chick that was in incubator in with broody that had no chicks and she just left it!....didn't sit on it or anything. I have moved it to other broody and she is sitting fine.

Both seperate now, one in first house and other in hutch. Not in sight nor sound of each other.

Hoping the broody with no chicks will have one or more of hers hatch overnight.

I think leaving them alone is the way to go but as I had caused the problem with them sitting together I felt I had to sort or lose all the chick to chick-snatching!
