Very nice! (I hate all these clever folk who make stuff that looks b****y fantastic! )
(says she, who can just about sew a straight line & put a button on! ) I've had curtain material for Jonathan's room since just after Easter - still not made the curtains yet! |

Sorry! It's probably one of the nicest looking things I've ever made - dressmaking wise, haven't done any for years, then my son wanted to make himself a jacket, so we tackled that together, then he progressed onto making his girlfriend a dress ( don't ask!) so he bought that pattern, then my friend - Nicky was going to a wedding and liked the pattern so I offered to make it. I'm old enough to have gone to a school where needlework was taught, we had a wonderful teacher, Miss Caldwell.
The biggest difficulty with any job - like your curtains is starting it. I've a pair up in the bathroom that I made when I first moved here and they are still not hemmed (7 years - what a slut that I haven't taken them down in all that time) See it's not all glory, there's loads of dust swept under the carpet

To be quite honest, I buy most of my clothes from charity shops these days, in fact apart from underwear I haven't bought anything new for years, there are 6 in Melton Mowbray so plenty of choice. The pattern for the dress came off the internet, there is a very nice fabric shop in Melton (closing down) but he only has McCalls patterns, although I didn't know that at the time, my son had seen a dress he liked on ebay and asked if we could make one like it so I Googled and there was a complete range, including American stuff that you'd never get over here in the shops, fabric of course is a different matter altogether as you have to "feel" it first. There's also sometimes a good selection of vintage patterns on ebay, I rather fancy a 50's style dress with a big collar, when I can dance properly to do it justice I'm going to make one.

Somewhere tucked away I have a cross stitch pattern with a very cross looking mouse on it in an apron and mop cap and she's saying "You can touch my dust but please don't write in it" That's me.

I don't really know apart from the fact that Prom Dress seems to be an American term, there are lots of "prom" dresses and patterns on ebay, but they seem to be no different from say a ball gown, the dress for my friend is cocktail - so it's flashy but short and in my mind a ball gown used to be long but not necessarily so these days, I think maybe it's just a trendy modern term for a special occasion dress, hopefully somebody else will come along and put us right.
It was the wedding today - hope she's not spilt red wine down it
I lied when I said I never bought anything new for myself - I went to the Dairy Event yesterday and bought a set of waterproof work clothes. I have tried them out today and come home clean and dry

Just wanted to say - what a fabulous dress!
Oh, and I've been meaning to make a new curtain for the front of my son's tv unit for 2 years - I've got the material and it's a half hour job really, I just never seem to find that half hour... |

Great dress, great figure in it as well Those were the days. Shiny fabric is the pits to sew so I think you have done a brilliant job
I buy from the charity shops as well and thats the stuff I wear. The stuff very very occasionally bought from the proper shops is left unworn and is for me a waste of money.
But I never learn |

| Being from the US... A Prom dress is a formal dress, long, specifically worn for the Senior Prom at High School. (for young women). Ball gown is more 'mature'... but really not any difference, LOL |
