that's what you think Wink ,mind you it's different up in ness Rolling Eyes
on goat hill they have elderberries noticed them the other day
and they have blackberries ,angus had an auguement with nonie he said they were brambles she said blackberries ,plum trees fruiting outside in the castle grounds ,an orchard in back that is fruiting outside Wink
think global warming is having something to do with this we have hebriden hedging do you have shetland hedging

No hedges, no blackberries - oh I wish! Fruit trees are in polytunnels or greenhouses. The islands are mainly moorland, there are berries (crowberries? I think) if you know where to look - and what you are looking for.

maybe you could talk to nigel and find out about planting swedish fruit bushes....they should manage your conditions ok

Crowberries are different to bilberries (crowberries are flatter and more black than blue). Bilberries are also called whinberries in yorks.
There might be cranberries in the damp places in the north? There are supposed to be lots in the dales but I have not found any yet.

We picked a load of damsons near Skipton - made really great jam. Friends have said it tasted better than a previous batch I made with bought damsons too.
