Fenn if you have a look on Creative Living they have a couple of topics on felting my darling xx not sure how you'd do it with a fleece though you can either do needle felting which JD has done or boil knitted stuff (not explaining very well )
I have accidentally felted stuff before by putting it on too hot a wash - but I then made the most of it & used it for making a cushion covers with

Fenn did you know there is a felting course on at the Gateway this year? Its in an evening. I got a copy at work 'll give you a copy of the brochure from my office tomorrow if you like, lists all the new courses for the winter.
Sadly none are doing chicken raising....maybe we should write to them and offer our services next year I suggested the same for OH and the didge...get your OH to come along |

You'd be better off buying a fleece direct from a sheep farmer at shearing time - probably too late for this year, but not all fleeces have gone in yet so there may be some still around, much cheaper that way. I used to know a woman who did felting dems at shows, I think the wool was carded, washed & dyed and spread out and she dabbed at it with something (a dabber) very wet with lots of washing up liquid, I was always intrigued by her as her hair looked as if it had been felted too. She came from Cornwall and her hubby did beekeeping dems at the shows as well.
When Don Quixote heard the "giants" roaring in the night and it turned out to be mills working, general opinion was that they were fulling mills - making felt.

do you have a feed store near you it might be worth putting a note up and asking ,
wool is now catagery 3 waste ,wool marketing board pays 10 p per kg ,the fine if they think it is soiled or marked is 20p per kg
farmers are no longer allowed to burn it ,which was the best way of getting rid of it
so you could be doing somebody a favour ,i've still got 3 fleeses to do something with |

they shouldn't be i don't think although some companies sell fleeces for composting i don't know if they have been washed or processed in some way ,the new ruling puts wool in the same catagory as spinal cord from cows it's unworkable sheep shed their own fleeces in some breeds ,so if people advertise that they'd like fleeces i know farms like nonies will snap your hand off ,they where trying to get rid of fleeces last year and again this ,my fleece collection is building up ,sorry just going though my sheep ruling stuff ,with more coming next year ,i'm not looking forward to all that sort of stuff |
