Awwwwwww thanks Nanny , the chicks is just a matter of saving - the babies - well hopefully one day I haven't given up hope yet , my friend says one may be a replacement for the other after waiting 6 yrs and counting - but I would still want chickens - I am obsessed with them Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Is it a shetland black? IIRC they have some araucana in their make up which would explain the topknot. My Cream Legbar looks similar.

You do remember correctly, this is a page from the araucana website which mentions Shetland hens. http://www.araucanas.co.uk/history.html

Tufty's mum is all black with a topknot (I know who it is - caught her laying the egg! lol!), the dad is black and gold (my son named him Roodolph). There are more pics of our hens on my www., will have to update it coz I don't think Craig's guys are on it as adults, but there are pics of our original hens from chick to adult.
