Tufty, our first home bred Shetland chick. My son Craig hatched the parents on his 10th birthday (28th June) last year. He did all the turning etc. himself - the eggs hatched a day late - to celebrate with him surely! This is the first time we have had a Shetland cockeral so we snuck an egg in the bator with the marans.

Wow, it's amazing, please tell me, is it really that colour or is it a trick of the light?
Congratulations to your son, what a lovely baby

It's black nanny - though the birds do have a lovely sheen on there 'grown up' feathers. Knobby - if the silkie cockeral has been up a ladder to the big girls I'll have his guts for garters! I want this to be a big HEN that lays green eggs and has real feathers! Shetland hens often have a 'tappit' (tufted) head.

Oooooh, I hope Knobby is wrong and you're Silkie's not been up there diguised as another type of cockerel

It has a bit of Blue tinge which had me going. My Black Wyandotte has a lovely sheen, but a greeny sheen Wink

They can mix any colour while you wait can't they? If it's a cockeral you can use it as a paint brush! But dont tell my son I said that! Wink
