My columbian pekin broody has had enough of her single baby cream legbar chick today, and has been trying to get out of the pen all day, she has also laid an egg on the floor Crying or Very sad
the cockerel has stood by the pen all day, and has been chasing the other cockerels off!!
Now, what do I do? i cant leave the chick on her own, do i put her in with some 6-7 week olds (both girls) she is only 4 weeks old, or keep the broody in with her for longer, even though she wants to get out. I could let mum out tomorrow, but keep chick in, see what they both do, any suggestions anyone?

Ahh..poor little chick...and only 4 weeks old ?? I would try with the slightly older chicks, but youd have to keep an eye on them very close ! Sad

If she's still looking after the chick, then she might just want to venture out a bit more?

If she still keeps the chick close & calls when a tasty morsel of food is about, then that's probably all she wants.

You could try letting her out when you are around to supervises in case there is a problem.

Mum stood close by for 5 minutes, then went off with the cockerel, and hasnt looked back since. The chick has been cheeping all afternoon, tried putting in pekin chick (6 wks) but it started pecking the chick, so seperated them again. It wouldnt be so bad if there were 2 chicks, but the others died straight after hatching Sad
I cant believe mum has left her chick after only 4 weeks Exclamation Sad

maybe she will go back to it at bedtime, or maybe you should put her back at bedtime, just to give her a suggstion that her job's not quite done yet.
