Sooty (LF Maran, ~18months old, been here for 5 months now) seems very ill, sitting still eith eyes closed and visibly straining to pass something. Have palpitated and she has no shelled egg that I can feel. I do remember somone saying that shelless eggs make them feel very poorly while laying? I've given her a few teaspoons of cod liver oil by mouth to help anything pass and put her in a cool dark box with easyily accesible water and food. I can't see what else I can do for her?

She is feeling well enough to get up and run from you when you approach though....

starters and finishers often lay soft or even no shell eggs...dont panic.........cool darkish /shady place to rest lots of cool water, acv at 2 % for one week (in plastic bowl not galvanised).a bowl with fine grit (calcium)and bowl with larger grit(grinding food)and no treats ( cruel i know but for chooks sake) and she will pick up if she is not very ill.best of luck..mojo

If you give it some time and she can't pass it herself, then maybe try the same things as you would for a hen that is egg bound with a shelled egg?

thread here with more details

Good luck with her - hope she's feeling better soon!
