I have 21 eggs in the incubator and so far three of them have hatched. They are 3 of the 8 Dutch Bantam eggs. There are also Leghorn, Maran and Cochin. I don't want to work anymore today, just sit at the incubator and drool

Baby steps Alice. Don't over do it, you will get a head rush. In case that happens, just sit with your head between your knees for a moment. I know that the altitude can cause problems also. |

Yes aliceb they are all due today/tomorrow depending on whether or not you count day one as the day you put them in or the next day when they have heated. I now have 6 hatched all Bantams, 1 more pipped and one not making any moves at all, its very quiet. The 2 leghorn eggs have pipped one of the Cochins has pipped and one of the Marans. I think I am in for a sleepless night!!!!!. Thanks for all your good wishes, I will take picy's tomorrow and post them on the gallery at least (i'm not quite sure how to transfer them to a post)
Talk to you all soon

Sorry Jaydee I ment to say are you using an Octain 20. I have a problem seeing in with the black stripes on it. I have put a lamp over it and when I want to see in I switch the lamp on and then off again as it gets warm and might effect the heat of the incubator. |

Update on the babies, 7/8 of the Dutch Bantams are out (the other one looks dead in shell) 2/2 Leghorn chick out and 1/5 Marans out so far. I did have to help a few with the shells. I am finding it dificult to get the humidity up high enough and the membrane is drying and sticking to their feathers. I have put wet pads in the bottom of the incubator but it still seems to be running quite dry.
None the less it's a very good day. Just wish some of the Cochins would hurry up, I really love them and haven't had any before these will be my first.
Ten more to go and I have to go to work. Aren't I glad I work at home but I will find myself bunking off to often and not getting my dogs done!!!
Till later, happy Mandy |

Having trouble with the membranes drying here too - I helped one last night coz I didn't want to leave it until this morning when I had to go to work, unfortunately not at home. 2 of the marans seem to have had their air sac on the side of the egg - result of being posted? and sat for hurs not progressing, both I moistened the dry membrane with a few drops of water - hoping I didn't drown them! one I chipped bits away and then it hatched itself about an hour later, the other one was hatched this morning.
Lucky you being able to check on them. Good luck with the rest! |
