I'm having a problem with hedgehogs walking into the electric fencing and then rolling up and staying there, everytime they try to unroll they get hit with 5,500v again. We have managed to rescue two, but one didn't survive Crying or Very sad

Anyone any suggestions on how I can stop this happening again without compromising the safety of my lot?

are they coming from outside the run? could you put a line of low lawn edging ~ maybe 4" high stuff stuck in the ground all round the edge, but far enough away for you to be able to strim the grass by the electric fence

I doubt that would work as hedgehogs are pretty good at climbing and 4" would be nothing to them,

Sorry Nigel, can't think of anything better though.

Only thing I came up with is to have a slope upto the fence, that way when they touch it and roll up they may roll down the slope away from it?

not sure if it would work though,
All the best

Still think the slope idea might be the best bet,
you could always put plastic sheeting on it, that way you wouldn't get weeds under the fence and they would slip back down the slope,

I haven't a clue!

Have you thought of contacting any of the hedgehog welfare or wildlife organisations? They should obviously know a lot about the creatures behaviour and what might deter them...

A quick search on Google and I got:

... still amazed at what you can find on the net...
