i think if i had left sweetums as a ram then he might have been interested in buying him Shocked
deb knows what i've been like ,it's been like having a baby again ,deb has been the health visitor Laughing
he went in said they were not to bloshy for bottle feed lambs
and felt along their backs looked at their feet ,and asked if i had problems with scouring ( i had dagged sweetums,he was feeling the heat and oh had brought me a set of shears and i wanted to try them ,tha was the real reason ,i'll be sick of it by next year )
sorry just so pleased Embarassed

no i'm afraid he's due for the freezer Crying or Very sad ,
i haven't got very much grazing ,and i want to keep the ewes
i've also got the goats and the turkeys who are freerange ,so the males are for the freezer ,i know i sound horrible Crying or Very sad ,it's horrible when they have to go ,we also send the goat males
it's just i was hoping i was doing things right ,and i'd love to keep them ,the wish list thread a while ago would be to win the lottery and buy more land ,but my feed bill is big got asked on sat and told them don't ask ,as it is i don't think it saves me any money raising my own meat ,it's just that i know that i have done the best i can for them they are happy ,well fed ,watered ,and cuddled Rolling Eyes Embarassed
and i think it's me that feels awful when they have to go ,
but you carn't keep everything
Confused suz

Suz, You are so right. We have a limited amount of land as well and Pumpkins calf was destined for the freezer from conception as we can only keep the mums as pets. It was just unfortunate that she turned out a beautiful heifer. If you produce your own meat you know like you said that it has had good food, water and care all it's life and goes to a small good slaughter house than you can't do anything else. I know that I would rather shed the odd tear when something goes than pretend that meat just arrives packaged at the supermarket. Crying or Very sad

Yep, I agree. All our boys go as well. Well, we do leave the odd one unsnipped if he looks promising to sell as a bull.

I have Hamish at the moment who is for our freezer. We have a small abattoir just a few miles away, he will then be butchered by the best butcher in Cornwall.

Well done suz, a bit of praise is always nice and Im sure you deserve it.
