We did lift them, stored them correctly, and they rotted over winter, so we bought some more Very Happy

We easily get enough from them over the summer to make them worth buying - the cost of a few tubers is a lot less than bunches of flowers over about 5 or 6 months. The dahlias, roses and zinnias should keep up self-sufficient in flowers for the vast majority of the summer.

Every other year I lift mine, but then they are in compost so they are easy to clean off,

Then I store them in brown paper bags (so they still get a bit of air) hardly any go rotten

The second year I was here I had them all in planters and started them off in the greenhouse and had flowers from now until october !

I'm annoyed i lifted mine when we were thinking of moving and put them in a pot in soil but also left tubers in the soil and gave a few to my neighbor so i thought i was going to double the amount of plants this year but the ones i left in the soil did not grow! then noticed next doors all the ones i gave him did!I'm gutted I'm just left with my main plant that had been in the ground for years which i re planted as we never moved after wards.i cant understand what went wrong with the tubers i left in the ground? There's a number of things it could be,
either they got frosted without you realising, or the soil was far too wet and they rotted. or they have been eaten by something

Mine have only just started to shoot up now, not sure why they are so late

I think it's all to do with the weather we had. It was warm before they should have started shooting and then it went cold and wet ~ so I think a lot of stuff in the garden is going to be out of time

even worse the ones i gave next door have been in full bloom for about a month and all i have from the main plant so far is green leaves!what is going on it seems to be really slow,my neighbor shouted over the fence have you seen the tubers you gave me i felt like saying yes can i have them back now please Shocked

Oh poor you, sasha ~ hopefully yours are just having a rest and next year will be twice as good as your neighbours

lol i do hope so ,i saw a load of nice ones reduced to 25p in asda the other day so bought loads of them and have planted them hoping they will shoot up OK next year(i know its a little late to be planting but they did have pretty big shoots)so thought i would try at least hopefully my garden will look as nice if not nicer than next doors i just cant believe its just green at the moment with no color after all the work a have put into it over the years mind saying that when spring was here it was bursting with color and i think it will be for late summer too just not in between usually by now the dahlia would be dominating the area with big bursts of orange color.oh well maybe next year Rolling Eyes
