Announcing the arrival of Pumpkins (elure) new little heifer that she proudly presented us with last night at 9.30. we were privileged enough to be there and a prouder mum was never seen before

. A very happy night had by all - I have been camping there for the last few nights to be on hand if needed but apart from breaking the membrane surrounding the calf so it could breath she did it all on her own,and spent the night cooing at it and anyone venturing close. Happy happy cow and owner. Will post pics later on today.

Elure is just her pedigree name we all call her pumpkin.

thanks for your comments guys,

The calf was on it's feet in 10 minutes but it was a further 40 before Pumpkin would let it suck as she couldn't see or lick it properly if she did Laughing

. Eventually it got the better of her (I was getting a bit anxious by this time as it was getting dark Rolling Eyes

)and we left her too it when we could hear happy slurping noises.

Sorry I forgot to say - this morning the calf has a lovely warm round tummy and is completely clean and dry after Pumpkin stayed up most of the night licking her - I am amazed there is a calf left!!

Have just gone down to check on them and play find the calf with Pumpkin Rolling Eyes

She had got hot and being unable to move the calf, had left it and wandered up to the shed. The bottom of the field where she had the calf is hay length grass but we had a good look and eventually it answered her!! I have carried it up to the shed and penned them in the yard area where I can see them! In a few days the sheep and other heifer can go down there and then Pumpkin can have the top paddock.
Anyway she is still gorgeous.
