|
|
Has anyone used or using a Covatutto 16 incubator. I’m in the middle of incubating but I'm not sure about the humidity and controlling it. I've added water in the bottom but it’s been going 3 days now and I can’t see any water gone!
If anyone could help it will be appreciated |

| HThe school incubator is a Covattuto 12. It has 2 water containers in concentric circles, only the inner one has water in it until the last few days, then both get filled up, is this the same as yours? The water levels need to be checked, but only top the water up when necessary and use warm water. You can check the humidity level if you want to, either with a hygrometer or by candling the eggs, the air sac size will give an indication of the humidity. Don't worry. |

| I'm not sure about incubators, but the last 3 days have been really wet, by definition humidity has been pretty much 100%, so I wouldn't expect much in the way of evaporation. The weather dried up here in Somerset yesterday luinchtime, I assume that the rain stopped in Cornwall sometime yesterday morning, so have you noticed any evaporation of the water since then? |

| Yep thats the same, two circles in the bottom. At the moment the middle one is topped up to the top but the water has gone cold, is this normal ?? |

| It will feel cold to the touch - it is at the other end of the bator from the bulb. We have had good hatches with the school incubator (and I hope they continue coz it's MY eggs in there at the moment!). Just top it up as necessary with warm water. The water will not evaporate quickly because it is a still air incubator. The surface area of the water in that bator is a lot bigger than in my own incubator at home - but that has a fan running and has to be topped up more. |

if its any help, i have got 2 jam jar lids in the bottom if my incubator for water, they will both last approx 4 days without needing topping up but i always top them up before they run dry.
Its the surface area of the water that matters and not the quantity of water.
hope this helps |
