I've just got my 2 new chickens (a speckeldy and a sussex star) - they're being put in the shed with the other 5 at bed time tonight. Weather permitting I'd let them out to free range for a couple of hours tomorrow - should I still do this and try to keep the newbies in or let them all out together or just leave them all in the run together for 24-48 hrs?

I would let them free range as long as you can catch them later as they almost certainly won't go back in the house on their own until they get used to their new home.

Cheers. I find it quite amusing that the others take themselves back into the run when they've been out a couple of hours or so - it's as if they need to check it's still there or they realise they're out and it's a bit odd for them.

Mine are the same. If they're out of the run and some thing spooks them they're straight back in again. They seem to feel safer in their run.
